Gorge FC 3 - 1 Bays United




On a miserable rainy, windy, cold day for soccer, two goals by Mark in the first half were the edge as Gorge FC defeated Bays United 3 - 1 to remain top of the table and unbeaten.

Well, maybe not this lot!

The game began with play pushing immediately into the Bays end. A new focus and strategy on offense is being implemented, and it was apparent early on that it may take a few games to understand what Coach Danny is looking for.
However, it didn't take long for Gorge to open their account on the day as at the 6 minute Mark, a scramble in the box saw Mark take control of the ball and put it in.
The boys were looking to build on the early momentum and numerous chances were had, but again the finishing touch was lacking or in many instances, the ball was shot wide or directly at the keeper.
A few nice free kicks by Tom were close but went begging for someone to touch them in.
Most of the first half was played in the Bays end, and on 32 minutes, Clayton fed Mark wide on the right, who beat his man and put the ball far post for the second goal.
Jordy had an inspired run beating three men to finish with a clear shot on goal that just missed far post.
As the rain started to fall, the whistle was blown to finish the half.

A scant 2 minutes into the second half saw a nice cross from the right from Quinn connect with big Thor and his header looped over the keeper into the net.
Despite falling behind 3-0, it was obvious Bays were not folding up their tent and came back hard. They started to pressure the defense, but most of the shots were from long range and Mateusz played them well.
On the other end, Mark was making good use of his speed and getting some quality chances, ringing one off the post.
At the 15 minute mark, Bays had a shot into the box which the ref decided was a hand ball on Steve, and the subsequent penalty had Matuesz going to his right and the ball slotted left.
As the weather continued to worsen, the play followed suit, as free kicks and crosses were not able to connect and finish.
The last 10 minutes had a few more forays into each others zones, non threatening, and the final whistle blew.

Notes: Most other fields in the city were closed. RJ is still sidelined with a broken hand. Tom was taken down in the box and the Bays player given a yellow card. Thor received a yellow card.
