Gorge FC 2 - 0 Gordon Head



Two first half goals by Quinn and Mark and a scoreless second half saw this lively encounter end 2 - nil in Gorge FC's favour.

The match opened with both teams pressing early with runs into the opposition third, but no clear scoring opportunities. As always, the game in the midfield determines the flow with Jordy and Thor playing large. Mark's speed always creates problems for the defense and 8 minutes in, as he made a run with the ball cutting across the top of the 18 yard box he was fouled.

Quinn stepped up to take the free kick and expertly curled it around the wall and into the top left corner out of the reach of the keeper. Whenever Gordon Head threatened into our end, the defense was there to clear. At 23 minutes, Gorge FC pushed into the Gordon Head end again and a resulting corner was given.
Quinn took the corner that was batted down by the keeper only for it to come back to Quinn who crossed it into the box for Mark to head down into the net.

Gordon Head pressured late in the first half and a dangerous cross into the box was deflected high over the net. The whistle sounded to end the first half with Gorge up 2-0.

This was not a game that was going to escape Gorge FC today. Gordon Head started the second half with three strikers up front and some good running. Our defense adjusted and played very tough. Another opportunity opened up for Gordon Head and this time it was Steve's crossbar coming to his rescue.

The last twenty minutes of the second half saw good end to end action but limited scoring opportunities. Mark was clear with only the keeper to beat but tapped the ball too far ahead on his run and it was smothered by the keeper. Russell was also in tight on the keeper just not quite enough and the keeper deflected it wide of goal.

The final whistle blew after the scoreless half with Gorge extending their unbeaten streak to seven games with a record of 6-1-0, and importantly another clean sheet.
