Gorge FC 4 - 3 Lakehill




A game of two halves. The first half saw a dominant Gorge side making great use of their speed, size, passing and crossing to outplay Lakehill all over the pitch and go into the break up 2-0.
The second half saw Lakehill drawing even after depositing two behind a disorganized Gorge back end, only to see the two goal margin quickly restored by Gorge. Lakehill clawed one back in a frantic last 10 minutes for the game to end 4 - 3 in Gorge FC's favour.

Gorge FC was short one man on the bench with Tom being unable to play due to a heel injury, and both Russell and Ryan feeling under the weather.

The game started for Gorge FC much as it had the first two games of the season with strong runs, great marking and heading in the midfield and strong defense. The play was in the Lakehill end for most of the first half and Gorge opened their account on 15 minutes with a great run down the right side by Mark who then crossed a lovely ball into the middle for Quinn to control and find the open corner. Only 3 minutes later down the left side saw Kevin passing the ball up to Quinn who put it into the left corner for Mark to run onto, beat his man and send another great cross into the path of the onrushing Jordy for the second goal. This pattern repeated for the rest of the first half and Gorge was unlucky not to have increased the lead heading into the break. Most pundits feel that a two goal lead is the hardest to defend, and the second half of this match showed that to be true. We seemed to have lost some intensity and definitely communication and shape as the second half unfolded. Lakehill put on some good pressure and were rewarded by a strike from Diego who had the gift waiting at his feet with three defenders watching. Gorge proded forward again with Mark running onto a ball that also had the Lakehill keeper hard charging for 20 yards outside the box. The collision injured Nick's ankle to the extent he could not continue to play and Kyle Bridge went between the pipes.
Lakehill equalized on another scramble with the defense confused and back on their heels. On the ensuing start, Mark was rewarded for his hard work with a shot that Kyle let go through his outstretched arms into the net. After giving up the two goal lead, this was a character building goal and was followed shortly thereafter by a nice corner by Quinn landing at Thor's feet who onetimed it into the roof of the net. That goal was against Diego who had replaced Kyle in net only moments earlier.Lakehill pressured again into our end and were themselves rewarded with a gift of a header as it was an easily defended ball that should not have gone in.
The final whistle blew on an entertaining match. Overall it was a good win with many positives to take out of the game. Two injuries put a damper on the game with Clayton having his calf stepped on and the above mentioned injury to Lakehill keeper Nick Reda.

Lakehill drops to 1 - 1 - 1.
