Gorge FC 3 - 1 Lakehill


On a soggy pitch Gorge FC on the strength of two second half goals defeated Lakehill today by the score of 3 - 1.



The win solidifies Gorge FC's place atop the standings with a 12 win, 1 tie, 0 loss record for 37 points, 9 better than second place Gordon Head.

The rain fell intermittently throughout the match and the first goal (7 mins) saw a nice ball played through by Ryan to Jordy, who controlled it at the feet of the keeper to shoot left side and have it bounce in off the post.

As the half wore on, unlike previous games, the play was more often than not being played in our end. A situation that is sure to be corrected by Coach Danny this week.

At 33 minutes, a high ball played up to the Lakehill striker being marked by Evan on the right side, bounced over their heads with the Lakehill player getting the jump and after a few strides from 30 yards out sent a high shot that Mateusz could not get his hands on into the back of the net.

The half ended tied 1-1. During the intermission, Coach Danny addressed a number of area's that needed attention.

The second half started a bit flat for Gorge FC, and it wasn't until the 55 minute mark that Gorge secured the winning goal.
(it was a strategic substitution that sparked the team when T-Bridge entered the game up front)
Tom sent a nice pass up to up to Mohin who applied a nice little touch of the ball up to Mark. Mark with a spurt of speed was able to get clear enough to get a shot off that deflected off the defender past the Lakehill keeper.

At the 71 minute mark, Tom iced the game for Gorge FC when Kevin spotted him making a good diagonal run just past the half way line. Kevin sent a nice little chip into his path and T-Bridge powered his way down the left side shrugging off two defenders along the way. From 15 yards out his quick shot found the back of the net for a 3-1 lead.

Tom moved back into his defensive position and took control of the defense when Lakehill applied good pressure during the last few minutes. Three successive Lakehill corners were effectively headed out by Tom and Thor.

The final whistle blew for a 3-1 Gorge FC victory.

Notes: Two great headers on goal, one by David that bounced up and hit the crossbar, and another by Tom that just missed the left side. The boggy midfield took away our quick passing game and we had to adjust to take control. In the end, the stronger team prevailed.
