This opening game of the season features the top two teams from last year. Gordon Head Rocks won the Gold Division and the Island B Cup, with Gorge FC winning the Gold Division District Cup.
Game times this year are at 2:15 pm so there is an adjustment to the Saturday morning routine to be both physically and mentally prepared to play.

Gorge FC has added size and speed to their roster with the addition of former Bays United standout Mark Buchanan. Mark joined the Gorge FC team for their trip to Hawaii to participate in the Hawaii International Cup where they placed 5th, and is a welcome addition to the squad.

The game started with both teams testing each others early.

Quickly, Gorge picked up where they left off last time these two teams met with sustained pressure in the Gordon Head half of the field. Lot's of good passing and breaks down the sides of the field. Jordy was having a particularly strong outing taking on Gordon Head's big midfielder #20 and schooling him time and again.

A number of very good free kicks from Tom just eluding the big men in front to land in the arms of the keeper. Ryan took a rocket of a shot that the keeper could only get his fingertips on to push it up, glancing the top of the crossbar and over.

When our free kicks and corners get a bit more accurate, we will be deadly on set plays.

The first half was a very entertaining and well played half with no one able to open the scoring.


Early in the second half Gordon Head strung a few passes together to threaten but the defense stood firm. The game was being played more and more in the neutral zone with the defenses clearing effectively and no clear cut scoring chances were had.
Another corner saw Mark heading it over the net. Overall, the run of the play was clearly in our favor. As the game time ticked down, the fitness level was starting to wane and Gordon Head applied more pressure to try and force a winner.


On 78 minutes, RJ sent a nice ball through the middle for Mark who out ran two defenders and when the keeper rushed out to cover the ball, Mark was able to just get a shot off and score into the open net.
All the hard effort had paid off with the final whistle blowing for a
1 - 0 win.


From the back end out it was a great effort with everyone playing hard for the victory.
